I have been amazed at what has been happening on the Internet. People are connecting more than ever before and it is all with the help of social networking sites. These sites are making it possible for people to find long lost friends, information that might have been lost and all types of other information.
I am excited about this type of technology because of the learning aspects of these sites. Students can instantly be put in touch with different professionals and other teachers. These experiences can link students to a variety of leaning opportunities. These sites can bring a whole new meaning to pen-pals and chat buddies. In the Horizon Report it even talks about how these type of sites will migrate to more meaningful information. Spaces like Myspace and Facebook are great socializing sites but New Horizon talks about defining these spaces and creating a more informative people-centered site.
I feel that these sights have a lot to offer the educational experience if used correctly. I believe these sites have a great impact because information is at your fingertips.

Nicky,
I don't know if you have attended a class reunion lately but a few years ago was my 35th. Classmates.com connected all of our far flung class together. The exchanges were amazing. Just like high school but online.
We even found our one "prison inmate" classmate on line and printed his picture and story.
Nicky, I agree that these types of sites have a lot to offer the educational experience if used correctly. However, my concern is that there is not enough people monitoring the security of these types of social operating system websites and that children may be vulnerable to people with ulterior motives. Nice post...

Hey Nicky,
I just have not been able to get into the social operating systems yet, i.e., Facebook or Myspace. I tried, but I feel like it's more for the younger people, mainly due to the fact that hardly any of my family or friends are into this either. I guess we are mostly doing other things that occupies most of our time, such as work, school, and family. I do enjoy some of the things that my daughter shows me like the pictures and blogs. And Marge's classmates finding their imprisoned classmate was just touching.
